This answer is pretty cliche'd but true...

The 24-70 II has been nearly permanently attached to my 5D2 and I may have to buy another Canon camera just so that I can use some of my other lenses. For landscapes requiring as much detail as one can muster, I don't have a better zoom lens.

While waiting on the 24-70 II for 2 years after selling my 2nd version of the original 24-70, I used the 24-105 in its stead and like the finished images just fine but not as much as I am getting from the new lens.

Can't advise you as to the performance of either on crop cameras.

I currently own a EOS 450d. I own a Tokina 11-16mm F2.8 Pro DX II Lens, canon standard 18-55mm f5.6 and 50mm f1.8. I have looked into EF24-105mm, though there are pretty good reviews, quite a number recommend EF24-70mm  instead. Please advise!
