Paul, if you just want to get rid of the error messages (since you say that everything appears to be working okay), I would suggest launching RegEdit (I know you said you're not comfortable editing it).  Select Edit/Find (Ctrl-F) and type MSHTDR.dll.  When it finds an entry that contains that DLL, export that branch of the registry, and then delete the entry that contains MSHTDR.dll.  After deleting all entries that reference the DLL, reboot the computer to verify that the error messages don't come back.

Exporting the registry branches containing references to the DLL is your "backup".  If you find something that doesn't work, merely double click on the .reg files you exported to add the entries back in the registry.
