With the F4 version (IS or not) you travel lighter, but limited to... F4!
With the F2.8 version, you carry the double of the weight of the F4 version. In the bag or in the camera.
Since you have the 50L, very good for low light, why not one of the F4 versions? And if you steel need a low light telelens you can add a 85:1.8 (or 1.4?), a 135:2.0L or even a 200:2.8L. Lighter, cheaper and modular.
