After 3 years playing with edge sharpening, I usually just use the regular sharpening tool, which is available in the "Add Adjustment" Menu.  Not as subtle, but to me more predictable and easier to use.  You should always sharpen at 100% in the loupe.  Sharpening is one of the things that Lightroom 4 does better than Aperture.  Aperture still has the organization thing down better though I think.
