The last A10 Thunderbolt II (Warthog) departs Europe

Yesterday the last A10's departed Spangdahlem Air Base and I was there with my a77 and brandnew Sony 70-400 GII. It rained and then rained some more and I can tell you the camera and lens worked just fine for over 2 hours in the weather. These are truly the very first shots with the new glass and I'm still learning it but can assure you is much faster focusing than the original version. So here are a few shots:

The lead aircraft in a flight of 4. The squadron CO is the pilot.

Starting engines

Coming up to idle rpm

One of the wingmen's bird about ready to taxi

Taxiing out

The lead aircraft is airborne

#4 and the last one getting airborne

Chasers for CC (the young ladies work in squadron ops)

Take the scenic route! Life is too short to do otherwise.
