Do any of the 3rd party batteries function identically to Canon LP-E8 batteries? charge indicators?

I need an LP-E8 battery for my t4i and was tempted by the Sterlingtek LP-E8, but saw a few reviews stating that the battery circuitry didn't work and would not report the charge level to the camera.  Therefore your camera would say the charge was at 100% and then suddenly fail once depleted. One reviewer stated he experienced this on all 3rd party batteries.

Is this actually true?

What batteries are an option?  I need it to have reasonably accurate charge feedback so I know when to change the battery.  I also need it to have the same capacity or greater as the Canon ones. I liked how the STK had a higher amp hour rating.

I read a few reviews stating they don't last as long, but I don't care as much about that.  If a battery is 1/4 the price, I am perfectly fine with it lasting 1/4th as long.  I am not a professional, just a guy having fun and need a 2nd battery so the fun doesn't have to stop to wait for a charge.

Has anyone found batteries that are reasonably functionally equivalent to the Canon ones?
