A shot that paints a picture ..

Hi All,

I was wondering what you all think regarding the following:  Let's say that someone takes a very nice shot, interesting, with good composition, pleasing colours, creative, etc. BUT the image is somewhat noisy, not tack sharp, etc. .. i.e. the IQ is not what you would consider good.

Would you dismiss that photograph because of all the inferior technical aspects, or would you still consider it good work and worthy of acknowledgement / appreciation?

I personally place more importance on the composition and creativity than the IQ.

Any opinions?

A few years ago I went to the house of a famous boxer, there were two photographs of him to be sent out to fans. One was a formal shot of him in a pin striped suit standing at his large fireplace with two dogs at his feet. It was taken by a famous photographer, the composition was fine it was well lit and pin sharp.

The other photograph was a snapshot taken as the boxer was being lifted up in the ring after a fight in which he won the world title, he was covered in sweat, wearing the belt surrounded by hangers on. The photographer was not mentioned, the image was badly lit and a bit blurry in places.

I was asked which photo I would send out to fans. Easy choice for me, the second shot was what the boxer was about, the ring, the world championship, the work and sweat. The IQ was not a patch on the first photograph, but the second photograph told the story!
