Epson 2200 end of life

Just received the message from my 2200 printer that parts are at end of life and needs service.  From what I understand it needs the ink pads replaced.  I have called several Epson repair sites and the least expensive is $150, but will cost me another $20 to get it there.  My printer is 9 years old and has never had any problems until this message.

Is it worth repairing a 9 year old printer?  Will the print head go next?  Parts are discontinued for the 2200.  If I reset the counter and not replace the ink pads will that work?

Should I purchase a new R3000 or 2880 or 3880?  Which printer is best?  Are new printers coming out for Epson?  Which one has the least cost per print?
