I agree that having the shutter and aperture controls as dedicated dials is a huge part of why I love the camera. I almost never use program auto anymore because it just feels too lazy, like I'm not taking full advantage of a system I paid good money for. It's also a lot easier to tweak exposure on the fly - I don't think I could ever go back to a PASM dial after this. And the EV compensation is great, but you have to train yourself to set it to 0 after each use and to check it when you take it out of the bag.

The overall result is that you stop letting the camera's lightmeter tell you what is 'right' and start deciding for yourself. It's been a lot of fun - I taught myself sunny 16 and all that to get better at making snap judgements.
