Strange SL1 Metering Issue

Canon SL1 with EF-S 17-55 Lens. Av Mode, AI Focus, Center Weighted Metering or Evaluative Metering with Center Focus Point Selected (Will try other combinations soon).

When shooting either continuous or single shot, the third image will result in an extended shutter speed of at least a second, sometimes up to 20 seconds and gross overexposure. The first two shots were in in the 1/200 to 1/320 range, with no change of the dynamics of the shot.

I'm looking through the menus to see what in the world might be causing this. The camera seemed to do fine until I changed to the center focus point and from RAW to jpeg Large.

Still evaluating...
