Congratulations. I think you have made a good decision. I've found the 100-400 to be a versatile lens.
I really didn't like my 70-200 on my crop but it rarely leaves my FF. Save that lens for when you upgrade. (F4 is the better buy in my mind if you are not into portraits: if so consider the 100 macro and the f4)

To address your planning long term: I'm looking at a 300 f2.8 II with TC's as hopefully being the best compliment while refining my lens and bodies selection. Not keen on buying used and the 500 is not within rational reach for me.

For the time being I wouldn't bother with the 1.4 TC until you are ready for the real investments. My experience with long range on the 100-400 has been less than ideal.
