Not sure this argument is valid any more. Years ago the zoom had nowhere near the image quality that a prime had. Nowadays I personally think almost all zooms rival the primes.

I am fortunate enough to have 25 lenses of which maybe 10-12 are zooms and personally I would put my 24-70/2.8 up against my 35, 50, 60 primes or my 70-200/2.8 up against my 85, 105 and 180 primes.

Just my own thoughts.........
