I've had the 16-35 for over a year now. You won't notice how 'bad' it is at 35mm if you use the lens as normal people do - meaning that you take a picture with good composition and show it to other people. If you shoot brick walls or charts and analyze it in a dark room for yourself, you might notice that it does not excel at 35mm.

But unfortunately there are no brick walls around here, so I have to limit myself to real subjects.

By the way, I love the useful focal length and VR is great. Shoot directly into the sun and hardly any flare. I would never trade this lens for a 14-24. Ever.
