Yes, Custom Picture controls are key to accuracy...as is WB.

The ultimate setting would be a pre-defined picture control with an algorithm that would calculate and compensate the reds (tune them down) automatically depending on each situation.

In Jpeg only situations...that might be a great feature.

Can't you load a custom tone curve on a D7100? I know you could on the old D70 and some of the others. If so, you can do exactly what you say.

One for the problems with the picture control utility is that it only allows adjustment of the RGB curve without control of the individual RGB channels in the custom curve editor in. So while you can adjust overall contrast/brightness with the curve you cannot say tone down the red channel.

I could not agree more... It is certainly a shame that they removed the D2X modes... or the possibility of adjust RGB channels individually. Canon, certainly, has a better color rendition (JPEG). The only solution is avoid Nikon RAW editors... Far better Adobe Camera RAW and PSKiss profiles

I 2nd the pskiss profiles. I use them and love them.
