Epson RX680 - Error Message Fix? "A printer error has occured."

One button and three button mode select on left side all blinking after startup.

Head moves back and forth, gears spin like it normally does on startup.

Message: "A printer error has occured. Turn off the printer and turn it back on again. Please see your documentation."

Was working fine the last time I turned it off. No apparent pieces of paper in the paper path.

SSC utility can control some basics - reset counters, protection & overflow - and soft reset. It'll come up with a message saying all the cartridges have an error, then either go back to the error message, or if it's used up a cartridge starting up, it'll display a message to replace the empty cartridge (I can replace the cart, but then after recharging, it simply goes back to displaying the error message with blinking lights.)

Any easy fix? Or dumpster?
