I don't get street photography. Please explain

I didn't learn to see in one sitting.  I first got into telescopes as a young teenager, and I taught myself to see certain things, and not just skyward.  Later, I was taught how to see for reconnaissance purposes when I enrolled in the armed forces.  Once I retired, I learned how to see when I took up model trains and had to create realistic scale models and dioramas.  The last class I attended was when I began to take images to see how realistic I could get the imagery to look.  Boy, did I learn a lot once the camera was the intermediary between my eyes and the models.

Somewhere in all of that is learning to see more than the boring transportation corridors.
