45mm: some thoughts

Just got my 45mm.  Some photos to follow.  Thoughts:

with firmware 1.03 on NX200, it was initially greenish.  Update to 1.11 fixes that.

Much much much faster than 30mm to focus (but haven't tried 30 with new body firmware or upgraded the 30's firmware).

Disappointed by center sharpness in "real world" usage.  ISO=400, f/1.8 S=160.  No tripod, but I was using the "elbow pod".  This isn't scientific, but...

Overall, I'm torn.  It's a lot more fun to shoot kids with than the 30mm due to the AF speed.  OTOH, it is physically a lot bigger: coat pocket is doable but not trivial like with 30mm.  And, in my real world usage, I feel like I can do a 1.5 crop on the 30mm and get sharper images.  I don't *think* this is a "mis-focus on the 45" issue, but it could be.  This is only a couple days of real world usage and no scientific tests.

Like Eric's post shows, there's not that much FOV change in the 1.5x over the 30mm.  But the bokeh is really nice on the 45.

Got it from buy.com for $265 and $50 dollar store credit (deal last friday), so I'll probably keep it even if I'm a bit disappointed.  May or may not lug the 45 around with me this (travel-heavy) summer.  16 and 30 are coming for sure.

My $0.02.
