I'm not sure what Nex you have but a big zoom is easier to handle on a NEX camera if you have an EVF so that you can hold the camera steady. A big zoom held out 'compact camera' style is not going to work well.

Alos consider the Sony / Minolta 500 Reflex lens on the LA-EA2 adapter. A nice compact light tele lens set up.
