/When/ I entered challenges here, I adhered to capture date rules--even walking several city blocks to re-take a photo I had taken a year earlier because of the rule.

Having said that, though, when I'm out for "photo fun", I take photos of a lot of things that I think are pleasing with the thought they might find there way into a future challenge sometime. For example, maybe I see a wonderful reflection opportunity and I take several shots from different angles. Now, in the back of my mind, I'm thinking this shot might be useful if there is ever a "Reflection" challenge.

So, while there are time restriction challenges I have competed in where my imagination has been challenged to come up with something in a week or two, I see nothing wrong with taking a photo and holding it for a future date. A good analogy might be recording a TV show on my TiVo thinking I'll watch it later.
