I had mine two weeks before it broke.  I'm lucky the camera did not fall off the hook before I discovered it.  The metal is super thin at the point where it meets the thumbscrew and I'm not surprised it broke.

The mfg was good and shipped me a replacement.  Since then I've decided to not use the clip to tighten the screw.  It's a little less convenient but have a small screw driver (using it for leverage, not as a screw driver) that I use to snug it up.
