Your conversion is off as you seem to have applied ADL to the D800 file (as it was "on" in the OP's file).  Here is a better truly neutral comparison using ACR with just the data and no in camera PP applied

As you can see, both cameras sensors did actually receive the same exposure but you converted the D800 pic different than the OP's more equal conversion. I assume you allowed ADL to interfere. Perhaps by using the wrong conversion program. That's why it appears the 5D pic in more underexposed in you conversion when in fact they are both exposed the same.
