Canon wide angle 'L' lenses - 16-35 and 17-40

Sorry i know this has been discussed many, many times before and i have looked at other threads comparing these lenses but i am struggling to make up my mind (which should mean go for the cheaper one)

Currently Canon has a cashback deal so in the UK the 16-35mm works out at £900 and the 17-40mm comes out at £500

Currently i use the wide end of my 24-105mm for landscape shots (on a 5D3) but i need something just that bit wider.  I do like low light evening photography but also have been known to shoot inside stadiums, etc. but i just wonder whether that extra stop and 1mm is worth £400 to me

Can any 16-35mm owners confirm they made the right choice looking back?

Thanks
