Re: Thom Hogan's assessment of a D400

There is a need for a DX Pro model but the way forward has to be high mps rather than high ISO. The point of DX Pro is that many simply do not want anything to do with FX size sensors because it means the 1.6x TC advantage is not an option anymore and if TC free option is wanted then that can only mean high MPS of 30 mps or more. High ISO would be restricted to 6400 ISO but so what? At 30 mps the difference in performance between DX & FX is far less than at the 12 mps level.

At 30mps a 200-400 f4 gives you the full complement of Tele lenses at 300, 400, 500 600f4 for FX FL. There is the possibility of producing also a super high ISO 12ps as some have mentioned but the Telephoto advantage is still massive and can't be ignored. Don't forget the other advantages too, DX Pro has got to be made, a 7100 does not cut it n extreme conditions.
