EX2F with Tele Converter (Newer & Canon)
Apr 25, 2013
I really like the EX2F as my travel camera for snapshots.
As I had some tele converters at home from my old point & shoots I decided to get some adapters and try them out in a quick handheld nonscientific test for fun (in real life I would probably just carry my mirrorless or FX with telezoom).
EzFoto 58 mm adapters: Too short, the lens will hit the teleconverter back lens.
Kiwi LA52EX2F: Size is good.
Canon 52 mm Teleconverter 2.4X TC-DC52: Horrible vignetting. Unusable with normal zoom. Using the camera digital zoom the vigneting disappear at 4.6X. However, it is still better to use a higher digital zoom without converter at same magnification. The only potential usefulness is using digital zoom at 13.2x which is a level that you cannot achieve without a converter.
Newer 2x 58mm Teleconverter: No vigneting at 80 mm (vigneting at wider settings) but it is more like 1.4x and not true 2x. Again just using digital zoom without teleconverter is better than using it. Again at 13.2 digital zoom it can magnify more than without it but it is not as dramatic as the Canon converter and I bet cropping the image without converter would be a better choice.
I uploaded 5 pictures in my gallery. Let me see if I can add to this post at least 2 of them...
No Converter at 80mm
Newer teleconverter at 80mm
No Teleconverter at 4.6x digital zoom

ps. I truly believe photography as a hobby is defined by the pleasure you get from the activity. It does not matter what equipment or results. I am a hobbyist and a very awful photographer (snapshooter is a better name) but a very happy one.
