The more you know about light, composition and choosing interesting subjects, the less you need the  "wow factor" of the lens. People (including me) spend too much time looking for low light lenses instead of looking for good light to take photos in.

The Sigma 30/2.8, some nice light, a good subject and som lightroom-time will be 95% wow.

Very true. Many a times the lack of a great lens can be made up with a good lens and some thinking, hard work, choosing a location/subject carefully and a little bit of PP. I was a little disappointed with the kit 16-50PZ which came with the 5R at first, I even thought whether I got a bad copy. Mostly because I was using it on cloudy days or in dull environments. A week ago I used it in the early morning (after the golden hour) in a nice mountain village and the kit lens WOWed me at f/8-f/11.
