almost every nex owner uses an adapter of some kind.  some use the alpha adapter, others the canon fd or nikon, there are also the metbones, not to mention the wa adapters for the 16mm lens.  next you are going to whine about filters?

Some (only) Sony NEX owners use adapters because, with focus peaking, Legacy lenses can be focused so very easily; one of the advantages of the NEX system.

The "adapters" you mention for the 16E2.8 lens are not adapters; they are UWA and fisheye converters that bayonet onto the front of the 16.

think of it this way - you can't use the vcl-efc1 fisheye lens without the 16mm just like you can't use an alpha lens without the la-ea1 or la-ea2. you are right they are not true adapters but that rant about adapters was pretty ridiculous.  that guy in one rant claims nex has a great lineup of lenses because it can use dlsr lenses and then the next claims that you shouldn't count adapted lenses - 'It will not work (without adapter) on the Canon EOS-M mirrorless'.  sorry, but i would like that option - especially since the future may be a nex/alpha hybrid!

The 16mm lens and attachments are small and well-suited to the NEX system.  The LE-EA2 adaptor is well suited to telephoto lenses which are large, but that's okay (not great, but okay) for telephoto applications.

But we're talking about a pretty large mid-range zoom which would be even larger with an adaptor.    Just seems like it would be much better if Sigma designed a version especially for mirrorless systems.  It'd be smaller, sharper, and in the case of Sony, brighter (because you don't have the loss of the SLT.)  They could probably charge more as well.

As for adapting the Canon or Nikon version, using this lens in manual focus mode is counter-productive IMO.  The whole point is to avoid taking time to change primes but if you just waste time manually focusing, you sort of cancelled out the benefits.

If you can (you can) adapt Nikon or Canon automatic lenses to NEX, you should be able to adapt this new auto. Sigma lens too because it will also have a Canon or Nikon FF lensmount. So use an RJ (?) adapter, or one of the 2 Metabones adapters. I actually like the idea. You would be getting a super-lens that rates up to 30 on DxOMark, while the best E-Sony they tested, the 35E18 achieved a rating of 21.
