Most cameras with metal bodies are a magnesium alloy, I wondered why this is used instead of aluminium, and for ultimate strength to weight at the very top end titanium??

This is a question regarding material sciences.

Have a first read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnesium_alloy

Then, consult any forum on material science. Not photography.

From the wiki article above, it seems magnesium alloy became very popular more recently, esp. for structures which must be rigid and are allowed to remain thick.
