The OM-D has been dethroned!

It took over a year, but the Olympus OM-D has finally been knocked off the Dpreview "Top Cameras" list. These are the top ten cameras on this site, based on user clicks for reviews and specs over the last five days.

It's pretty amazing for a camera to last more than a few months on this list, because the OM-D certainly isn't news anymore. All those clicks mean that even after a year people were still researching it. So the keen interest in the camera really lasted a long while.

This might explain why the OM-D is still selling for full list price, 13 months after introduction! You can usually find a Samsung NX discounted a month after release date. And the Sigma SD1 holds the all time record for being discounted from $7,000 to $2,200 in just seven months! Odds are, Sigma didn't get much demand for that camera at it's original price.

Some very nice cameras have come and gone from this list while the OM-D has been on it continuously for over a year. Cameras like the Sony RX1 and Nikon D800 had long runs too... but nothing like a full year.

The OM-D had a long run, but now the GH-3 will probably sit on this list for another full year. Because the GH-3 is also a pretty incredible camera, and is one that lots of folks will be interested in knowing more about.

The current reigning list champion is the Sony RX100, which has been on the list for 10 months now. Can it beat the record set by the OM-D? Perhaps it can, but my guess is that the GH-3 will be the next "list champ."

Only time will tell.
