No, plastic over a metal frame is the best compromise betwen weight, strength, and cost.  Plastic is more durable and helps slow down impacts because it can be designed to be someone flexible.  A metal body against concrete will not give and jar internal components.  Metal for handheld electronic devices to be used often outdoors is very outdated.  Field use devices are mostly plastic these days except where absolutely needed such as mounting threads and I'm talking about all devices in general including devices that cost $20,000.
