Ricoh GR lens. Why f2.8 not f2.5 or f2?

Hi, just wondering why the lens of the new Ricoh isn't any faster than f2.8. The lenses on the original film cameras were 28/2.8 and the new GR camera looks to be about the same physical size as the old film GR1s, yet the lens on this new digital camera has a shorter FL and presumably projects a smaller image circle so why couldn't they make it faster than f2.8? i.e. surely the physical aperture in the new GR lens is actually smaller than in was in the film lens?

Whats the physics behind it?
