Autofocus speed and accuracy on 400D (XTI) / 600D (T3i) / 50D / [100D (SL1)]

Hello all,

after having a 'total write-off' of my 400D (failure of electronics) I am looking for a predecessor for it.

One of the main concerns (and there were not much concerns with it) I had with the
400D was the speed and accuracy of the AF. Compared to the 50Ds ability to focuse fast
and easy also within low light / weak contrast situations the 400D was slow and was often
not able to focus under the same conditions. This happened with the same lenses,
with the Sigma 17-50 F2.8, Sigma 10-20, the Canon 70-300 IS USM, ....

As far as I know the 600D (and also the 100D when available) are using the same AF module
as the 400D. Is there anyone who compared the AF of 400D with the one in the 600D?
Is there a difference in terms of another module, of speed and accuracy?
Also is there a difference between 50D and 600D?

Thank you for all feedback,
Kind regards, Fran Peterz.
