Don't Use the RGB Histogram when shooting

Have you tried keeping an eye on the RGB Histogram on your D800e when shooting? If you see the red channel is way to the right,

True if shooting JPEGs. Not necessarily true if shooting in RAW.

Example: in day light the RGB histogram shows the exposure is just starting to clip the red, What is the reality in RAW?

  • You are not clipping the red channel
  • You have 2/3 of to stop legroom before clipping the reds.
  • There is no need to apply negative exposure compensation

Unless of course you use uniWB.
