Macro Newbie Seeking Advice (long post. Photos in 2nd Post)

Several months ago I got a pristine Konica 55mm f3.5 Macro lens for my E-M5.  Only used it to copy old slides and negatives at first.  A couple of days ago I attempted my first macro shots of very small flower (weeds) in my yard.  The blooms were from 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch diameter.  Shot at F11 and still could not get DOF deep enough.

First Question:  How much higher can you set your aperture without disastrous results?  My choices are f16, f22, f32.

Second Question: Does anyone know of a LCD shade that would work with E-M5 LCD?  I might need to make a home-made clip-on shield. I had great difficulty focusing and seeing the details on my lcd because of the sunlight.

Any other tips are welcome.  I am 78 and don't crawl around on hands and knees much anymore.

Tripod Rig and a couple of photos are in next post.
