Re: Does M4/3 or DSLR produce higher quality photo's

I think there are two often very distinct types of photograph. Content photographs, which include for example photojournalism, family pictures etc. for this type of photograph, what matters is generally a person or people in the frame. having clipped highlights would not particularly ruin some of the well known war pictures.

Then there are pretty photographs. The most obvious example of these is landscapes. For such pictures, aspects of IQ such as DR can be very important. If you clip the highlights on a sunset picture because you dont have enough DR in your crop sensor, the picture will not be pretty and so it will likely fail.

If you want to take pictures of interesting people in the street, for example, IQ is not crucial, but being subtle might well be, so a compact crop sensor camera will give the best results. If you're photographing the sun setting on some mountains, a larger sensor is simply going to give you a better picture and being able to preserve shadow and highlight detail is important, no matter how good a photographer you are you cant capture the image if your camera isnt upto it.
