G1X Video From Weekend Outing
Apr 15, 2013
I see occasional inquiries about video here. I’ve posted on this before and I’ve been meaning to use the G1X for video more to see what it can do. I’ve got a dedicated video camera and a Gopro Hero 2 for that matter, but it’s nice to be able to get some decent video with your still camera out of your belt pack (in addition to the supreme stills it can take).
I wound up taking more video yesterday on my day trip than I did still photos. Spliced some together when I got home last night – with a little auto contrast applied to a few of the clips (that’s not the G1X that fluctuates like that – it’s the Premiere auto doing its thing). It was pretty windy and that probably lent to the air not being as clear as it could be I suppose – hence, the harsh light and haze.
My damn electronic level won’t stay ‘level’ either – even though I’ve reset it. I fought with believing it was correct/incorrect all day long and the video is off kilter accordingly unfortunately. I might need to just turn it off if it’s going to keep doing that. My G12 electronic level was spot on and stayed spot on. This one was off out of the box and hasn’t kept right since.
Anyway, so, daytrip on the scooter down to Mt Scott about 90/100 miles to the southwest of Oklahoma City – beautiful spring day in spite of the wind. Lots of people had the same idea. Medicine Park is a former resort destination from the earlier 1900s and reminds me a lot of the Texas Hillcountry. There’s not a lot to it, but it’s a neat little destination to hit while down there seeing Mt. Scott. The Wichita Wildlife Refuge was where the American Buffalo was repopulated from if I’m not mistaken. They’re not behind any fences for the most part once you get in there – which is sort of cool, but a little scary (if you’ve seen that home video of that dude getting pummeled by one of them).
I’m no video pro, but I enjoy playing around with it – I’m sure this could be polished up into something more than it is now, but I had other things to do last night besides polish up day trip video. It might be a good opportunity to play around with the cloud editing on Vimeo/Youtube to add some of their music clips while I sit at the computer at work all day waiting for the phone to ring.
