Re: First time Alaska trip advice

A quick dogsled note - Chena has their own kennels and we went dogsledding when were there a few weeks ago.  However, Chena in winter has snow (and lots of it).   I don't know if they run the rubber-tired tours in the summer, but it would make sense since they have between 90 and 100 dogs (at least when we were there).

We had the option to do the rubber-tired trip out of Juneau on our first vacation (cruise) back in the summer of 2005, but opted for the adventure of taking a helicopter onto a glacier and dogsledding across the ice.  Unfortunately, the weather collapsed on us and the helicopter could not go up, so we lost out entirely.  Hence, our Chena dogsled trip was particularly fun.

You might want to do some research to see if any of the dogsled companies where you will be go up onto a glacier in summer for the 'true' experience.
