The way you state it here, you are relying heavily on ambient light to prop up the flash. I am concerned with flash exposures only and the way they are metered with minimal, if any, ambient light support.

Use a fast shutter speed to eliminate the ambient and see how your TTL behaves then.

Yep works fine, flash coverage is severely shortened, but I certainly don`t experience pre flash.

Generally I tend to not use the fastest of shutter speeds, its just not needed, I don`t depend on ambient, i just prefer to balance the two, its not as if I`m down a coal pit.
