I too hate cameras dangling around my neck so bought a Black Rapid Sport strap

Can't praise it enough, camera dangling by my side works much better for me.

I also have the RC2 connection kit so it's easy to swap between the strap and my monopod. Using this option less often as I tend to handhold 99% of the time.

Doesn't stop user stupidity unfortunately, I had unclipped the camera from the strap - I forget why I did this, there was a good reason at the time I'm sure - then forgetting I had done so dropped my hand (holding the camera) down by my side and simply let go. Doh!!!

I was very lucky, somehow it survived the fall and there's no problem zooming out for me.
