Budget will allow the purchase of either a Grip or 40 MM lens.

Torn between the two.

Thoughts and/or opinions?

Both on sale locally, I am a newbie.

Thank You.

I see you're in Canada.

Because of that, the chances of you shooting in colder weather are probably a little above average.

I grip all my cameras for this reason.

While others are changing their batteries because they die off so quickly in sub zero temps, I've never had to. (while using a grip)

I've been in -20F temps for hours taking up to 1000 photos of swans, and not run out of power while using a 300f2.8is with a tc. Add to that the chimping I do, and the advantage of a grip becomes more clear.

Of the cameras I've gripped: Canon XT, Xti, SXi, 3Ti, 30D, 7D, and 5DMKII.

BTW, buy the cheap grip.

I bought the Canon grips for the first 2 cameras, after that I went with the 3rd party ones. They work exactly the same as the Canons at a third of the price.
