X100S shutter speed limit: dream or reality?

I've been playing around with my X100S for a fortnight.

Yesterday I read a review on a French website; a dumb review; ranting, among other things, about the 1/1000 shutter speed limit at f/2 without even mentioning the ND filter. So that was dumb but it made me wonder what happened when one tried to shoot at f/2 and 1/4000 - not something I've had experienced in thefilled so far thanks to the awful weather we have in France at the moment.

So I set everything in manual, including ISO. And I got pictures that seem to be taken at a perfect 1/4000th.

See results in attached file.

So I thought the camera was somehow compensating shutter speed with greater aperture without showing me and I compared shots at f/5.6-1/1000 (possible according to the manual) f/4.0-1/2000 (MAY NOT work according to manual - was does that mean, "may not" ?) and f/2.8-1/4000 and saw what looks like a normal depth of field modification.

Anyone, any thoughts ?
