See this

I have both the 5D mkIII with the Canon 24-70 f/2.8L II and 70-200 f/2.8L IS II (and more) and the D800E with the Nikon 70-200 f/2.8VRII. To my eyes there is little to distinguish the resolution between the 5D III with the 70-200 and the D800E with the 70-200.

I'm also shooting with a Phase One IQ160 and the resolution of the 60MP of this camera is heads and shoulders above the two DSLRs! There are no measurements of the Phase One cameras with lenses on DxO, but my feel is that the IQ160 resolves at least 50MP or more with the best lenses.

That is because of the lens, not the camera.

If you use two equal good lenses , the Nikon 70-200  are good in the middle but inferior to the Canon from middle out to the corners.

Use rather two equal lenses and you find that Nikon has higher resolution (nothing new under the sun)

Nikon has much better resolution in the shadows  and higher DR as we all know.

This is Canon 5dmk2 with 35/1,4  at F-4 compared to Nikon d800 and sigma 35/1,4  F-4

The motive are over exposed so none from Canon could say that it is a under exposed motive.

The high lights are clipped and can not be broth back, the motive should be exposed one more stop but that increase the shadows noise more in Canon
