Re: Just ordered the 24-120mm f/4....after long consideration....

I finally pulled the plug on the 24-120. I have rented one from lens rentals a few times. The $300 rebate was the clincher. I have 28-70 and 28-105. I have not seriously tested them against each other yet, but looking at shots from engagement shoot Friday, the only issue I saw was distortion. At 24 it is pretty bad. Shots looked sharp enough to me, but I did not pixel peep.

Of course one can crop. But if you are doing an event where speed in getting them online is a priority, that would mean no sleep or hiring an extra person. Sometmes you just cannot get closer at events and need to get them batched and online in a few hours while you contnue shooting other fast paced events. I can tell you that the afs, or lack thereof in the 28-105 is a big deal to me. The 28-105 has darned good image quality, but getting focus in fast paced events can be frustrating compared to 28-70 or even 24-120.

Aren't you glad we have choices?
