Using an Android tablet to view/edit photos while traveling? I've been warned not to.

I'm looking into a tablet or smaller device that I can take with my while traveling so i can at least view and do basic edits on some of my photos.

I want a tablet that I can attach my SD card to (via a card reader, probably via a mini-USB to USB converter, though I found a few older Acer tablets that have USB 2.0 ports on them). I'd like to then view and maybe edit and save my images.

I was looking at an Android-based tablet, but a few people have now warned me away from Android, saying that not all tablets or versions of Android will let me do what I want. I gather from them that the Android world is a bit of crap-shoot: some tablets allow you to upload files, others don't; some will support and USB card readers, others won't.

So, I'm leaning now towards an iPad mini or iPad, since the newer ones allow you to attach a SD card reader and of course there are loads of photo apps for the IOS environment.

Any advice here about using an Android tablet as I've described and about the pitfalls, if any?
