Hi dnorth12, if you are driving all the way from Seattle then it an awful long drive just to see Monument Valley/Arches.  Why not on the way if you can stop by Zion NP (South) first.  Then continuing eastward around 130 miles is Page, AZ.  Here can visit various canyons like the famous Antelope Canyon as another person has suggested.  Monument Valley is another 130 miles east.  There is a loop you can drive: http://wikitravel.org/en/Monument_Valley

Then on your way up to Arches NP you can make a rest stop at Gooseneck State Park.  It is about 32miles to the east of Monument Valley.  But before you go up to Arches you may want to consider also Mesa Verde NP.

I did this circuit more than ten years ago.  The journey is very scenic.  I especially enjoyed the areas where the green Colorado River cuts through golden desert landscape.  It is a spectacular part of America.
