I finally got the 15-85mm today. 15-85mm seems better than 18-55. It does appear slightly sharper, I think. I took these pictures indoor without a flash. I think I got the optimal settings for the environment. Converted from  RAW to JPEG, no processing. Certainly not 3 times better than then the kit lens, but I do see some marginal improvement. It is obviously not a scientific test, I do have some pictures with the same focal  length but don't want to post them here (the kid was making all kinds of crazy faces playing the game). The new 15-85 seems better...somewhat

and yes, I know these pictures probably could have be improved with a better technique.
