For active travel, shooting in low light, sometimes - S90, S110, RX100, or 5Dm3?

I currently have Powershot S90, and Canon 5Dmk3 (and some older cameras I don't use much). And like every time the more active travel season (=~summer) approaches, I wonder about my camera choices. And even before that, I'm going on a week long cross-country skiing trip in Norway soon, and I'm wondering what to bring with me.

In past, I've had S90, A720IS, and some other pocketable cameras with me on similar trips. BUT, the low-light photography (of for example northern lights) has been pretty miserable with them - just look at this (tripod+self-timer 15 second exposure, best of the lot, but way too much sensor noise for my liking):

With 5Dmk3, I could of course get much better results, but it's not really suited for active use in hostile environments.. which brings us to the question..Is the low-light performance of post-2009 pocketable models (either Canon Powershot S110, or Sony DSC-RX100) closer to S90, or to 5Dm3?

Normally when I go hiking I just bring my 5Dmk3, unless much climbing is planned, and I'm tempted to bring it on this skiing trip too; plan B would be to buy "new" pocket cam with better low light capabilities than S90, and plan C would be just to bring S90 along for yet one more year..
