If you want less depth of field: use a longer lens. I keep my (adapted) Nikkor 180/2.8 just for those occasions. But the lighter and far more usable 200/4 does a good enough job. For the filter cast matter: shoot a grey card with the filter on. Better still, shoot a colour target, and do the profile in LR (you can do it just once, and it will take care of the corrections any time you use the filter).
