Theoretically, the 75 only has shallower DOF if you stay put and shoot from the same distance as with the 45.

If you keep the same aperture and back up to get the same subject magnification, the DOF remains the same.  What does happen is that you can get better subject isolation with the longer lens, due to the OOF background being magnified in comparison to the subject, so any OOF blobs look "blobbier."

However, if you have a 45 and sometimes want shallower DoF, or you want a fast shortish tele, and don't mind the price, it seems pretty good so far.
