Why Exposing to the Right (ETTR) is BAD!

that is not ETTL.

That is not the correct way to ETTL. You would only use ETTL when the dynamic range of a scene does not exceed the camera, that is when the highlights don't go outside the edges of the histogram. Depending on taste, if the highlights aren't important, you can blow them out for correct exposure in camera or ETTL.

Most cameras do underexpose a lot when they sense bright parts of the scene such as a of a backlit portrait, in snow, or the beach.
