I would cease all communication with the other party.  It is highly unlikely that he has any legal recourse and no good will come from having any additional dialogue with this person.  Regardless of whether there was dust in the lens or not, you sold the product in good faith and there was no visible dust to the best of your knowledge at the time of sale.   You are in the clear.   It would be cheaper for the buyer to have the lens cleaned than to pursue any legal direction.  Although it is difficult to do so, I would just ignore the situation unless you are served with a legal document.
